Pensioner faces arrest

A pensioner convicted of harassment and six breaches of her Asbo has failed to turn up at court for her sentence.

Dorothy Evans, 81, from Abergavenny, Manmouthshire, will face arrest if she fails to attend Cardiff Crown Court again tomorrow.

Judge Roderick Denyer QC said she was "deliberately frustrating the processes of this court".

David Webster, defending Evans, told the court she had been admitted to Nevill Hall Hospital, Abergavenny, where she was due to undergo a number of blood tests that would last up to four hours.

The Judge has ordered that an arrest warrant be issued unless Evans turns up in court tomorrow at 9:00 am.

The court also heard how Evans had failed to attend a meeting with the probation service in March, which breached a condition of bail.

In addition, the court heard that Evans had a string of previous convictions involving neighbourhood disputes, four previous convictions for harassment and eight convictions for breaching a restraining order, between 1999 and 2005.

She was given the Asbo in May 2005, prohibiting her from causing alarm, harassment or distress to neighbours in Park Crescent or anyone in Gwent.
