Chelsea player arrested on drink-driving charge

Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien has been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.

According to a report in 'The Sun', the 24-year-old was driving a black Range Rover when he was stopped by police in Southwark shortly after 5am on Monday morning.

Essien is suspended for the first leg of Chelsea's semi-final clash against Liverpool on Wednesday.

A spokesperson for Scotland Yard said: "At approximately 5:10 yesterday morning officers in Southwark stopped a vehicle driving in the Old Kent Road.

"Officers spoke with the driver and subsequently arrested a 24-year-old man on suspicion of drink-driving.

"He has been bailed to July pending inquiries."

Man Arrested Following M40 Crash
A man has been arrested following a serious multiple vehicle crash on the M40 in Oxfordshire. The crash, which happened shortly before 10:30am on Friday morning, involved two cars and three lorries. London's congestion charge zone increases
Despite criticism, London's congestion charge zone has been virtually doubled in size. The zone, which costs £8 a day to enter, includes Bayswater, Chelsea Kensington, Knightsbridge, and Notting Hill. London Mayor Ken Livingstone hopes that the tariff will help reduce traffic in the newly expanded zone by up to 15%.

Eight Men Arrested Following Dawn Raids
Over 100 police officers have carried out a series of raids concerning child sexual exploitation offences in Oxford. Eight men were arrested following the raids at 6am this morning 2 June. Police are investigating approximately 60 offences in connection with the operation relating to female victims in Oxford between 1999 and 2007.

French Police Arrest Convicted On-The-Run Rapist
A 56-year-old convicted rapist who went on the run before his trial has been captured in France. Police in Calais arrested George Doulat, from Filey, North Yorkshire, on Monday. In his absence, Doulat was convicted at Bradford Crown Court for the rape, attempted rape and sexual assault of a 19-year-old woman in 2012. He was sentenced to 10 years.
