World Cup winner Alan Ball dies
England World Cup winner Alan Ball has died at the age of 61.
The former Blackpool, Everton, Arsenal and Southampton player collapsed outside his home in Hampshire as he tackled a bonfire.
Ball was the youngest member of England's World Cup-winning squad in 1966. He went on to win 72 caps for his country.
He is the second member of the squad, which beat West Germany 4-2 at Wembley to die.
Captain Bobby Moore died of cancer in 1993.
Ball was also part of Everton's league championship-winning side and also appeared in the 1970 Word Cup finals in Mexico.
He also managed seven football clubs, including Portsmouth, Southampton and Manchester City.
Ball was also awarded an MBE in 2000 for his services to football.
In May 2005, Ball put his World Cup winners' medal and commemorative tournament cap up for auction in order to raise money for his family. They were sold for £140,000.
Ball is survived by his son Jimmy and two daughters, Mandy and Keeley. His wife, Lesley, to whom he was married for more than 36 years, died of cancer three years ago.

Woolmer 'was poisoned'
Pakistan cricket coach Bob Woolmer, who was strangled at the Cricket World Cup six weeks ago, was also poisoned, a BBC investigation has claimed. BBC's 'Panorama' programme said that preliminary results of toxicology tests meant that it now seemed certain that Woolmer was rendered incapable of resisting before he was strangled.

Football greats pay respects to Ball
Many of football's greatest figures joined the mourners at the funeral for Alan Ball in Winchester Cathedral today. The 61-year-old died from a heart attack while dealing with a small garden fire at his Hampshire home last week. Alan Ball, a member of the victorious 1966 England World Cup squad, was the youngest member of the team.

Firefighters tackling a blaze at a tower block in Edinburgh uncovered bomb-making equipment. The man who lived at the flat, 62-year-old Faris al-Khori, pleaded guilty to possessing explosive ingredients and instructions on how to prepare bombs.

World Cup Complaints Soar At Ofcom
The UK's communications regulator has now received over 750 complaints regarding a broadcasting glitch that saw 1.5 million fans miss England's goal in the World Cup match against the USA on Saturday. Ofcom reported that the total number of complaints to ITV has reached almost 6,000.

According to the latest forecasts from Informa Telecoms & Media, global net TV advertising is expected to climb 3.7% in 2010 to US$116 billion, after an extremely difficult year in 2009. Increased consumer and corporate confidence along with this summer's World Cup finals will help boost TV advertising spend this year.
