Sheffield nightclub collapses in fire
The Gatecrasher One club in Sheffield has partially collapsed following a massive fire.
Fire crews were called to the club in Arundel Street on Monday evening. Two people were inside the venue when the blaze broke out, but they managed to escape unharmed. There were no reports of any injuries.
A number of roads around the area, including Arundel Street, Matilda Street, Sydney Street, Cumberland Street and Furnival Road, were closed.
Several work places and student accommodation were also evacuated as firefighters fought the blaze.
Residents living in the area were also instructed to keep their doors and windows closed, because of the fumes from the fire.
Smoke from the blaze could be seen for miles across the city.
A structural engineer attended the scene to survey the damage.
Speaking on Tuesday, Simon Raine, Managing Director of Gatecrasher, said that they would be looking to rebuild the club as quickly as possible.
