Pedestrian killed after car mounts pavement
Police in South Yorkshire have appealed for witnesses after a female pedestrian was killed when a car mounted a pavement and knocked her down.
The incident happened shortly after 10:30 on Thursday morning on Abour Drive in Thurcroft, Rotherham.
It is believed that the driver of a Vauxhall Astra lost control of his vehicle and veered across the carriageway, mounting the offside pavement before colliding with a 51-year-old woman.
The woman was thrown on to the bonnet of the car which continued down the pavement, colliding with two parked cards - a Renault Kangoo and a Ford Focus - before the woman fell into the road.
The impact of the collision with the second vehicle pushed the Ford Focus into a third parked vehicle - a silver Ford Ka.
The driver of the Astra - a 75-year-old man from Thurcroft - was taken to Rotherham District General Hospital. It is believed that he may have become unwell while at the wheel of the vehicle. He is described as being in a "very poorly" condition, but stable.
The pedestrian, who has not been named, is aged 51 and from Thurcroft. She was taken to the same hospital, suffering from multiple injuries, but died later.
Police are asking any witnesses to the collision to contact them on: 0114 2202970.
