Disruption continues following Tube train derailment

Severe delays are still affecting Tube travellers on the Central Line, following the derailment of a train on Thursday morning.

The Central Line is still closed in both directions between Leytonstone and Liverpool Street. However, a special bus service is running and Tube tickets are being accepted on buses and some train services.

Hundreds of commuters were left stranded in a tunnel after the Tube train derailed on the westbound Central Line on Thursday morning.

Three carriages derailed between Bethnal Green and Mile End and passengers were stuck for two hours following the incident.

Eleven people were treated in hospital following the incident.

According to reports, a dislodged roll of tarpaulin falling on the tracks caused the derailment and safety checks are now underway at storage facilities on the Tube.

Work is currently being carried out to repair the damage and rerail the train, but it is not thought that a full service will resume until Friday afternoon.
