Ryanair Advert Taken To Task By ASA
Ryanair has been banned from claiming they service 'Brussels Faster And Cheaper' than Eurostar in a press advert.
The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) ruled that the term "faster" was "likely to mislead" and breached advertising standards. Ryanair claimed the flight from London Stansted to Brussels Charleroi was 70 minutes and compared this with a 131 minute train journey. However, the ASA pointed out that transfer times between central London and Brussels would add around 105 minutes to the journey times.
The ASA also concluded that the claim "cheaper" was misleading as transfer costs of approximately £8 would have to be added to the travel fares for transfers.
A spokesperson for Ryanair claimed that the ASA was "mathematically challenged" and that the company was seeking to have what he described as the "false ruling" reversed.

ASA Ban Wonga Advert

A4e Not Allowed To Call Itself A 'Social Purpose Company'

New figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) have revealed that unemployment in the UK fell by 115,000 between July and September, the 18th consecutive month the figure has come down. Total unemployment now stands at 1.96 million.

Peer Jailed For Expenses Fraund
A peer has been jailed for spending thousands of pounds of taxpayers' money on trips to the Bahamas, India and China. 71-year-old Lord Hanningfield was jailed last year for falsely claiming £28,000 in parliamentary expenses. A City of London Police investigation into the peer's spending at the Essex County Council has just this week been dropped.
