Mobile Taken In Vicious Hammer Attack
Police in south Manchester are hunting a man who hit a 17-year-old boy repeatedly with a hammer in order to steal his mobile phone.
The incident happened on Wythenshawe Road in Northern Moor on October 15.
The teenager was approached by a man near to Northolt Road and struck three times on the head with a hammer.
The victim fell to the ground and the attacker continued to hit him several times in the ribs, while demanding his mobile phone.
The attacker then took the phone and jumped over the fence into Wythenshawe Park and ran off.
The teenager suffered cuts to the head, a broken rib and facial injuries and was taken to Wythenshawe Hospital for treatment, but has since been discharged.
PC Gerard Reilly from the robbery unit in West Didsbury said: "This was an extremely violent attack for just a mobile phone and the victim has been left extremely shaken by the incident."
He also said that although there is not much of a description of the offender - other than him being white - this is a busy area.
"I am sure at this time of night someone must have seen something," he continued.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on: 0161 856 6074 or Crimestoppers anonymously on: 0800 555 111.
