Kent Body Is Vicky Hamilton
Human remains discovered at a house in Kent are those of missing Scottish teenager Vicky Hamilton, it has been confirmed.
Lothian and Borders Police confirmed that the body was that of the 15-year-old who disappeared from Bathgate in February 1991.
The house in Margate had been the subject of a search by police investigating the disappearance of another girl - eighteen-year-old Dinah McNicol. Dinah, from Tillingham in Essex, disappeared after hitching a lift following a trip with friends to a music festival in Liphook in Hampshire in August 1991.
She initially was hitching with a man she met at the festival and they were picked up by a man in a car at a petrol station on the A3. Her male companion, who lived in Surrey, was dropped off at Junction 8 of the M25 near Reigate, and Dinah continued her journey alone with the driver. She was never seen again.
It was revealed on Tuesday that Peter Tobin used to live in the Margate house, which is being searched. Tobin is currently serving a life sentence for the rape and murder of Polish student Angelika Kluk, whose body was found in a church in Glasgow last year.
In July this year, Tobin was also arrested and charged with the disappearance of Vicky Hamilton.
According to reports on Wednesday, police across the country are now being asked to review cold cases with reference to the movements of Tobin.
On Wednesday afternoon, police confirmed that searches will continue at the Margate house for at least another week in order to ensure that there are no other bodies buried at the site.
