Police Find Second Hand On Scottish Beach
Officers investigating the case of a woman's head and a hand being found on a Scottish beach have recovered a second hand.
Two young sisters made the grim discovery of the head wrapped in a plastic bag as they played on Arbroath beach in Angus yesterday morning.
Forensic tests are currently being carried out on the body parts.
Detective Chief Inspector, Graham McMillan, who is leading the investigation, said that a post-mortem will be undertaken today and that it could be several days before the results of forensic tests are known.
He added that the woman does not match the records of any local missing person. Tayside Police are contacting every UK police force in their bid to identify the woman.
Residents and politicians have spoke of their shock at the gruesome discovery.
Angus MSP Andrew Welsh said: "My reaction is one of absolute shock that such an incident should have happened, especially when young children have been involved."
At the moment, the incoming tides are hampering detectives in their search but the intention is to extend the search to cover the shoreline next to Victoria Park and also in harbour and the area towards Signal Tower Museum.
Police have made an appeal to anyone who uses the area or who has seen anything suspicious to get in touch.
