Primark Escalator Fall Girl 'Critical But Stable'

A three-year-old girl who suffered multiple injuries in a fall from an escalator in Primark in Liverpool remains "critical, but stable" in hospital.

Evie Parry broke a leg and an arm and suffered internal injuries when she fell 100ft from the second floor to the ground floor between escalators.

The incident happened in the Primark store in Liverpool's city centre on Friday afternoon.

Evie is being treated in Alder Hey Children's Hospital.

Her parents have issued a statement thanking staff and shoppers in Primark for their help. The statement, issued by Merseyside Police, said: "Evie's parents would like to express their thanks to all the staff at the Primark store and also the members of the public who responded quickly in providing first aid to their daughter after she fell.

"Evie's parents would also like to thank all the staff at the Liverpool Children's NHS Trust, particularly all the staff at the intensive care unit."

Police, along with the Health and Safety Executive and Liverpool City Council, is investigating the incident.

A Primark spokesperson told reporters that the council's engineers, along with engineers from the escalator maintenance firm, had tested the escalators and given them the all-clear to operate again.

The spokesperson said: "We are continuing to look at the CCTV footage to try and build up a picture of what happened.

"Our thoughts remain with the little girl and her family."
