Teens Arrested In 'Gang Raids' In Strathclyde
Police in Strathclyde have arrested 15 teenagers in a series of early morning raids, aimed at cracking down on gang violence.
The youths - all male and aged between 16 and 18 - were arrested in Drongan and Auchinleck.
The raids followed a large disturbance in Drongan last November. Police targeted 17 premises in both villages in search of those involved.
On Monday, an 18-year-old woman was arrested following her alleged involvement in the incident.
All of those arrested are due to appear before Ayr Sheriff Court on Wednesday.
Police are continuing to try and trace another man in connection with the investigation.
Twelve under-16s also received letters this morning requesting that they appear at Ayr Sheriff Court on April 10.
Superintendent Bob Hamilton, head of Strathclyde's Police gang unit, said: "This morning's operation was successful, with 15 males being arrested following their alleged involvement in the incident.
"This is part of our long-term commitment to break the circle of violence. We must work with local communities and our partner agencies to control the behaviour of these individuals and divert them out of a criminal lifestyle."
