Pompey Manager Launches Legal Action Against Police
Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp has announced he will be taking legal action against police for arresting him as part of a corruption inquiry.
Mr Redknapp and his wife Sandra lodged the action at the Administrative Court of the High Courts of Justice in London, following his arrest last November on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud and false accounting.
The couple's home in Sandbanks, Poole, Dorset was raided last year by members of the City of London Police, and it is understood they are hoping to gain a judicial review of the police's decision to issue a warrant to raid their home and arrest and bail Redknapp.
The Pompey manager, who has strenuously denied any wrongdoing, spoke of his "bitter disappointment" at the way the raid and subsequent arrest was handled.
He also claimed press photographers from a national newspaper had accompanied the police when they arrived at his home at 6am.
A court spokesman confirmed the action had been received and that the first hearing would be held on May 2.
Nine people in total were arrested in relation to the ongoing police inquiry, most recently Birmingham City’s co-owner David Sullivan and managing director Karren Brady last week.
