Talks To Take Place Over Grangemouth Dispute
Ineos the owners of Grangemouth oil refinery and officials from Unite trade union are to meet at the conciliation service Acas for talks aimed at resolving the dispute over plans to end the final salary pension scheme for new workers.
Without a breakthrough, up to 1,200 workers will walk out for 48 hours from Sunday.
Ineos have started shutting down the 200,000 barrels per day refinery ahead of the strike action.
Ineos say they have made "significant improvements" on initial pension proposals, however Unite say they are offering nothing new.
Ineos said they had been planning to delay the introduction of contributions from the workers to the pension scheme so that these were phased in at 1% a year over six years from April next year.
The initial proposal was 2% a year for three years.
Chief Executive Tom Crotty said: "The proposed new scheme for existing workers will continue to be amongst the most generous in the country"
The Scottish Government are now offering to bring in an independent expert to carry out a study into the management changes.
Stewart Ritchie, formerly of the Association of British Insurers and the National Association of Pension Funds, would conduct the study.

Civil service unions to take strike action
"Massive majorities" of public sector workers have voted in favour of strike action over the proposed rise in the pension age, it has been announced. Ballots conducted by Amicus, the Transport and General Workers Union, UCATT and UNISON recorded votes of between 73% and 87% in favour of a one-day strike across the UK on March 23.

15-Year Low For Pension Scheme Membership
Just 46% of the British workforce are members of a workplace pension scheme, as figures fell for the 11th year running. Data collected prior to the introduction of auto-enrolment in October 2012, showed the proportion of all workers joining a workplace scheme was at its lowest level since 1997 when the figures were first collated.

ONS Figures Show Year-On-Year Increase In Retail Sales
New figures from the Office for National Statistics have revealed a 1.5% drop in retail sales in January, down from a pre-Christmas boost of 2.5% but still 4.4% up on January 2013. Comparing year-on-year figures for January there was an 8% increase in non-food sales, with sales of household good increasing by 9.
