Body Found In Remote Farmland
A body has been found on farmland close to the M62 in East Yorkshire.
Humberside police say officers were called to the scene in East Cowick at 9.15 on Wednesday after a man walking his dog raised the alarm.
The area, which is near Goole has been cordoned off and a forensic investigation is underway.
It is believed that the body, wrapped in a bin liner, may have been at the scene for some time. Some reports say up to six weeks.
Police have dismissed reports that the body is off a young girl.
A Humberside Police spokeswoman said: "At this stage we don't know who the body is".
The body was found on land belonging to David Cooper, who runs a farming and transport business with his brother-in-law.
Mr Cooper is reported in the Yorkshire Post as saying "he has no idea how the body got there" and that "it’s a very quiet community" that "hasn't seen anything like this before".
Canon Cyril Roberts is also quoted as saying "it’s a no man's land" and "nobody lives in that area at all".
Police are guarding the scene and the body has been covered with plastic sheeting.
A police spokesperson said more details would be revealed today.
