Six Injured In Police Vehicle Collision
Six people have been injured in a police car collision with a taxi in Sunderland.
The Northumbria police vehicle was making its way along Corporation Road in Sunderland in response to a reported assault when it collided with a Citroen Xsara taxi on Sunday.
The accident happened at the junction of Villette Road just after 4.15pm.
A police spokesman said that the taxi driver and three passengers suffered minor injuries and were taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital to be examined.
The officers in the police car were also slightly injured.
"The road was closed for approximately two hours for inquiries to take place and an inquiry is under way to establish the circumstances of the crash," the spokesman said.
Police have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
Last month, Hayley Adamson, 16, was killed after being knocked down by a police vehicle in Northumbria.
Hayley died in hospital after she was hit crossing the road in Newcastle, the day before she was due to sit her GCSE English exam.
It is reported that the Volvo T5 was being driven at speeds of 100mph and did not have its sirens or blue lights activated.
The officer driving has been suspended from duty and an Independent Police Complaints Commission report has been launched.
