Birmingham Toddler Dies Following Airgun Shooting

An 18-month-old boy has died a week after being shot in the head with an airgun.

Rashid Ullah had been in a critical condition since the shooting on August 24, but died on Sunday in Birmingham Children's Hospital, West Midlands Police confirmed.

The shooting incident, which happened in the garden of Rashid's family home in Washwood Heath, is being treated as a tragic accident by police. The exact circumstances of the shooting are still being investigated but it is thought that Rashid was accidentally shot by his five-year-old sister, after she picked up the gun which his father, Bakht Zaman, 29, is believed to have put down in order to answer his mobile phone.
