Red Arrow Charity Flight Raises £11.5m
The wife of a wealthy businessman has paid £11.5m to fly with the Red Arrows.
Nine places on-board the display planes were auctioned as the star lot at a fundraising ball organised by Help for Heroes, a charity which supports injured service personnel.
Julie Heselden, the wife of the Managing Director of defence equipment group HESCO Bastion, placed the winning bid at the Hurlingham Club in west London on Friday.
Former Army officer George Hewson, chairman of the Heroes' Ball committee, said: "I woke up this morning and still couldn't believe it.
"We had hoped to raise over £250,000 from the ball but thanks to our sponsors HESCO Bastion and everyone who attended and dug deep into their pockets we raised around £1.65 million.
"A fantastic achievement for everyone involved. The Red Arrows bidding went beyond my wildest dreams."

High hopes of a medal in the women's archery competition came good today with Alison Williamson winning bronze by a one point margin over China's Shun Chi Yuan in the semi-final of the 70m competition. The 32-year-old schoolteacher from Shropshire held steady in a shoot-out that was tied at 97-all.

Investigation launched following football crossbow attack
Police have launched an investigation after a football match was halted due to a crossbow arrow being fired onto the pitch. The arrow was fired onto the pitch at Woodley Sports Centre on Lambeth Groove in Woodley, Stockport, during a Unibond First Division game between Woodley Sports and Alsager Town.

Ed Ball Fined For Using Mobile While Driving
Ed Balls has been fined for talking on his mobile phone while driving as his children slept in the back seat. The Children's Secretary was given three points on his licence and a £60 fine. Mr Balls, married to fellow minister Yvette Cooper, told the Daily Mirror the incident happened last Sunday as they drove from Yorkshire to London.
