Household Cavalry Soldier Killed In Afghanistan
A British soldier has been killed while on patrol in the southern province of Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has announced.
The soldier died after an explosion 14 miles north of the Taliban stronghold of Helmand yesterday.
The MoD said the soldier had served in D Squadron of the Household Cavalry regiment.
The latest death brings the number of British troops killed in Afghanistan to 121, since the US-led invasion of the country in 2001.
Ninety-four people have died in action, with the others dying from accidents or illness.
The barren lands of Helmand are dominated by a large river, whose valleys provide refuge for Taliban fighters.
The area has the densest concentrations of Britain’s 8,100 troops, currently in the country.
This year have proved the most treacheries for coalition troops, with violence reaching its highest level since the 9/11 attacks in New York.
