Miliband's Syria Mission Announced
Foreign Secretary David Miliband will be dispatched to Syria in an attempt to improve Middle East relations, the Foreign Office has confirmed.
As part of the goodwill mission, Mr Miliband will travel to Israel, Lebanon, the occupied Palestinian territories and Syria, however, a Foreign Office spokesman refused to provide any further details on the trip.
An official said the Foreign Secretary's mission was to form "a strong UK-Syrian partnership based on mutual trust, shared interests and a vision for a stable peaceful and prosperous Middle East".
Last month, Mr Miliband met with Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moualem in London.
The talks were the latest in a series of summits between Syria and European nations.
France and Britain have been at the forefront of ending tenuous diplomatic relations with the state, which has previously showed support for the Iranian regime.

Nine Britons Detained In Turkey
Nine British nationals have reportedly been detained in Turkey, after they were alleged to have tried to enter Syria illegally. According to reports, the group – consisting of three men, two women and four children – have been held at Reyhanli, Hatay province, near the Syrian border.

Release Of Teddy Bear Insult Teacher Sought
The UK Foreign Office is continuing efforts to attempt to secure the release of a British teacher who has been jailed for 15 days in Sudan for allowing her pupils to name a teddy bear Muhammad. Gillian Gibbons, 54, from Liverpool, received the sentence and will be deported once it has been completed.
