One Briton Dead, Several Others Injured In Mumbai Attacks
A British woman is one of scores killed by Islamic extremists in Indian, it has been reported.
At least seven other Britons have been injured in the Mumbai attacks, the British High Commissioner in India confirmed earlier.
It is likely this figure will rise, with the nationality of hostages being held at an office block and a luxury hotel still undetermined.
Hostages at another popular hotel complex were freed a short time ago.
High Commissioner Sir Richard Stagg has warned against travelling to the region, and advised any Britons currently staying in Mumbai to remain indoors until further notice.
Over 100 people were killed in last night’s attack, which have been described as "co-ordinated shootings".
Hundreds more were injured, among them many foreign nationals.
According to eyewitnesses, the gunmen, who simultaneously seized a number of locations in southern Mumbai, sought out British and American passport holders.
Hotels and restaurants were the main targets, where the terrorists sprayed bullets around the lobbies and entrances ‘indiscriminately’.
Prime Minister Gordon Brown said the attacks would prompt a "vigorous response".
Two buildings are still being occupied by the terrorists, who are said to be holding dozens of hostages.
The Oberoi Trident hotel and an office block are currently surrounded by troops, poised to storm the buildings.
A siege at the Taj Mahal Palace hotel (pictured) ended a short time ago, although the situation remains uncertain.
Fire has continued to be exchanged between both sides.
So far, security forces have killed four gunmen and arrested a further nine.
