Siege Ends At Mumbai Hotel
After over 24 agonising hours, scores of hostages have been freed from a luxury Mumbai hotel.
Indian troops stormed the building, which was being occupied by armed terrorists, whose comrades led a campaign of carnage across the financial capital on Wednesday night.
Almost 100 people were held captive in Taj Mahal Palace hotel as part of a terror rampage that has so far claimed 130 lives, and injured hundreds more.
Earlier, guests and staff under siege at the Oberoi- Trident were evacuated.
Many of the victims had been westerners.
India's security chief said the complex was cleared of gunmen, however, gunfire continues to be heard at both hotel sites.
It has been reported some of the attackers are British-born Pakistanis.
According to Indian news channel NDTV, "British citizens of Pakistani origin" were among the terrorists.
A Foreign Office spokeswoman told PA: "We have seen the media reports but we are not aware of anything giving any credence to those reports at the moment."
A British man killed by gun-wielding extremist in the attacks has been named as 73-year-old Andreas Liveras.
The businessman had been eating a curry when the restaurant he was sitting in came under attack.
He was rushed to hospital after being caught up in the violence but was pronounced dead on arrival.
A Northumberland couple has spoke of their terror when they were both shot while dining at Leopold Cafe.
Diane Murphy, 58, was shot in the foot and her husband, Michael, 59, lost consciousness after he was hit in the ribs by a bullet.
