Biker Gang Members Jailed For Life For M40 Motorway Murder
Seven members of the Outlaws motorcycle gang have been jailed for life for murdering Hell's Angel Gerry Tobin.
Mr Tobin was shot dead on August 12 last year, as he travelled along the M40 motorway on his way home from the Bulldog Bash festival in Warwickshire.
During the trial at Birmingham Crown Court, the jury heard how the 35-year-old Canadian, who lived in Mottingham, south-east London, had been targeted simply because he was a "fully-patched", or fully-initiated, member of the Hell's Angels.
There has been a rivalry between the Hell's Angels and the Outlaws, the world's largest biker gangs, for nearly 40 years.
Simon Turner, 41, from Nuneaton, Warwickshire, Malcolm Bull, 53, from Milton Keynes and Dane Garside, 42, Dean Taylor, 47, Karl Garside, 45 and Ian Cameron, 46, all from Coventry, were found guilty of murder. All had denied the charge.
Turner, who was described as the gang's sergeant-at-arms, was also convicted of possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life, while Bull and Taylor were also convicted of a firearms offence.
Sean Creighton, 44, also from Coventry, had pleaded guilty to murder and firearms charges, prior to the start of the trial. He had been described as the President of the South Warwickshire Outlaws.
During the trial, the court heard how Creighton and Turner had fired the fatal shots from a Rover car. One bullet had skimmed Mr Tobin's motorcycle helmet, lodging in his skull and killing him instantly.
The other defendants had provided "back-up", with Taylor, Cameron and Kane Garside, travelling in a Range Rover, while Bull drove a Renault Laguna, the court heard.
The plan was described as "almost military" in its planning.
David Robinson, Chief Crown Prosecutor, for Warwickshire, described the murder as "horrendous" and said that it was a "carefully and ruthlessly planned ambush".
