Baby 'Critical' After Ambulance Crash
A four-week-old baby has been critically injured after the ambulance he was in skidded on ice and overturned.
The baby boy was being taken from Preston to Leeds in the vehicle when it skidded and overturned on the M62 at the junction with the M621, West Yorkshire Police said.
He has been described as "seriously ill".
It is thought the ambulance hit a patch of ice at the junction at Gildersome. A doctor and nurse were also travelling in the ambulance with a paramedic crew when the incident occurred. The crew are said to be shocked, but there were no other injuries.
The child's parents were travelling separately.
A West Yorkshire police spokesman said: "It is believed ice on the roadway was a primary contributory factor."
Police said two other crashes were reported in the area. A Toyota Corrolla and VW Passat collided nearby, and shortly after a Nissan Micra hit the central barrier.
