Five Bailed Over Tony Bromley Death
Five men who were questioned on suspicion of murder, following the murder of a Merseyside man, have been released on bail pending further enquiries. The men, all in their twenties and from the Everton area, were arrested after 18-year-old Tony Bromley was found stabbed to death on Saturday. The victim was found outside a property in Sprucewood Close in Tuebrook. A 19-year-old woman who was also being questioned in connection with the death has been released on bail, police said. A post-mortem examination has revealed Mr Bromley died from multiple stab wounds. Detectives said he suffered a "deliberate and brutal attack".
Two Held Over Grenade Discovery
Two men have been arrested in connection with the discovery of a hand grenade in a street in Hull. Residents on 18th Street were evacuated and a cordon was put in place after the device was found on Tuesday afternoon. Army bomb disposal experts from Catterick made the grenade safe and residents were allowed home that night. A 44-year-old man is being held on suspicion of possessing an explosive substance. A man, 22, is being held on suspicion of supplying a firearm. Police said the 44-year-old man had also been arrested on suspicion of a public order offence. A spokesman said both men were being questioned.
Two Men Charged Over Edinburgh Rape
Two men have been arrested and charged in connection with a rape in the Dalry area of Edinburgh. Michal Marchlewski, 20, and Tomas Kryczyk, 26, are due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court. A 24-year-old Australian woman was attacked as she walked through the Telfer Subway on Monday afternoon. A police spokesman said officers were still keen to speak to anyone who had information which could help with the inquiry.
Green Claims To Help Industry Updated
Lord Philip Hunt, the Minister for Sustainable Development, has today announced a steering group to update Defra's 'Green Claims' Code. The code was devised to assist businesses to advertise their green products and services with confidence and help protect consumers from bogus or inaccurate claims. The code was last updated in 2003 but due to the massive growth in the market for 'green' products, the code now needs revising to support businesses and ensure the broad range of environmental claims they make are accurate, truthful and relevant. The updated version will address gaps in the current guidance to keep pace with the vast range of claims made about products and services.
Fare Dodgers Tackled In South London
New measures to clamp down on fare dodgers and make stations in south London safer were announced by Transport Minister Andrew Adonis today. The new £5.5 million project will improve security at 14 south London stations using new ticketing gates which could save train bosses from incurring substantial revenue losses. The announcement follows the recent installation of Europe's longest ticketing line at Waterloo station, where security has improved on trains and passengers can now transfer more easily to Underground services. From as early as March the new ticket gates will be staffed when operational. From next year they will be staffed for 15 hours per day, including between 7pm and 11pm, improving security and making it safer for passengers to travel late at night.

Dedicated ITV News Channel axed
ITV has announced that following a "strategic review" it is to invest £2 million in its news programming but the axe has fallen on its 24-hour rolling ITV News Channel. The company said that the decision came after a review of the network’s news services as part of an evaluation of the future requirements for ITV news up to 2010 and beyond.

Sky News Cameraman Killed In Egypt
A Sky news cameraman has been shot and killed while covering the ongoing violence in Cairo, Egypt. The broadcaster confirmed the death of 61-year-old Mick Deane on Wednesday. Mr Dean had worked for Sky for 15 years. In a statement, Head of Sky News, John Ryley, paid tribute to an "experienced journalist" and a "much-loved colleague".
