Man's Body Found In Harbour

A man's body has been found off the North Yorkshire coast. Officers were alerted at about 8.20am to reports of the body close to Endeavor Wharfe in Whitby harbour. A North Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said the body was then recovered by the inshore lifeboat but no further details have been released. The spokeswoman added: "An investigation will be carried out into the circumstances surrounding how the body came to be in the water."

Man Hospitalised After gas Explosion

A man has been taken to hospital after a gas explosion at a house in Denbighshire. Neighbours have been evacuated from their homes following the explosion in Caradoc Street, Prestatyn. North Wales Fire and Rescue Service, which is at the scene with police and Transco engineers, were called to the incident at about 5.19pm. The injured man was taken to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd at Bodelwyddan, suffering from burns. His condition is not known.

Search On For Missing Man

A search is continuing for a missing man last seen in Blanefield in rural Stirlingshire. Adrian Park, 48, was reported missing from his home address in the village, which includes part of the West Highland Way, on Saturday 28 February. Central Scotland Police are leading the search, along with the Lomond Mountain Rescue Team, Ochil MRT, search dogs and the Royal Navy. Mr Park is described as being 5ft 11in tall. He was wearing a black jacket. When he disappeared, Mr Park, who has dark hair and a moustache, was thought to be wearing a black North Face Jacket, black polo neck top and grey walking trousers, and grey/brown trainers.

Flat Fire 'A Deliberate Act'

Detectives in Hampshire, are investigating a fire in a block of flats which was a "deliberate act to endanger life". An accelerant was used at three separate points to deliberately set fire to flats above the Cafe Law restaurant in Osbourne Road, Southsea. A smoke detector was also tampered with during the fire, which took place during the early hours of Sunday. No-one was hurt. One of the residents contained the fire until emergency crews arrived. Police want to speak to anyone seen acting suspiciously or seen running from the building at about 2am.

Heroic Tyne Firemen Honoured
Two Tyne and Wear firefighters are to be recognised for their bravery at a special ceremony today. Andrew Nelson and Allan Richardson will be presented with the Chief Fire Officer's Commendations for brave and meritorious conduct after saving a man's life. The men took part in a dramatic rescue in the early hours of 4 February.

Firefighters launch four-day strike
More than 1,000 firefighters across Merseyside have begun a four-day strike in protest over planned job cuts. Another four-day stoppage is scheduled to begin two hours after the first one ends.

Appeal After Man Found In Burning Car
Police are appealing for information concerning the death of a man found in a burning car. Officers were called to reports of a car on fire at Mowlem Trading Estate, near to Leeside Road, N17, shortly after 1:00am on 17 December 2008. The London Fire Brigade were in attendance extinguishing the fire when they discovered a person inside.

Chief Fire Officer Resigns Over Child Porn Arrest
A top fire officer for the West Midlands Fire Service has resigned after he was arrested on suspicion of making indecent images of children. West Midlands Police arrested Frank Sheehan, 55, yesterday at his home in Sutton Coldfield.

Suspicious Glasgow Car Fires
Detectives in Glasgow's East End are investigating a spate of vehicle fire attacks in the city yesterday. Shortly after 3.30am police were called to a report of a vehicle fire in Ashvale Crescent, Glasgow. Upon arrival police were advised by Strathclyde Fire Service that four vehicles had been damaged by fire.
