Asylum Seeker Jailed Over PC's Murder
An asylum seeker convicted of stabbing a policeman to death has been jailed for life.
Nigerian Ikechukwu Tennyson Obih, 29, stabbed Bedfordshire policeman Jon Henry twice in the chest in Luton on June 11, 2007 as he tried to arrest him. He was told he must serve at least 25 years.
Obih, of Windson Road, Luton, denied murdering PC Henry, but admitted killing him on the grounds of diminished responsibility.
He was also found guilty of attempted murder of a window cleaner and wounding with intent.
PC Henry had responded to an emergency call after window cleaner, Stephen Chamberlain was stabbed, Luton Crown Court.
The 36-year-old policeman was one of four officers called to the scene. He was attacked as he tried to arrest Obih, who then lashed out at another window cleaner, David Knight, leaving him injured.
A second policeman was saved from another attack by Obih when another window cleaner, David Knight, hit him over the head with a window cleaning pole.
A baton round and Taser shot failed to stop Obih, who was finally brought down by a second shot from a Taser.
Obih has been detained in the secure mental hospital in Rampton, Nottinghamshire, since his arrest.
His defence team claimed he was suffering from paranoid schizophrenia at the time of the attack and had been diagnosed two years earlier after problems with cannabis and alcohol.
