Two Boys Charged With Attempted Murder

Two young boys have been charged with attempted murder following an attack on two youngsters in Doncaster.

The Crown Prosecution Service said the suspects - aged 10 and 11 - are each charged with two counts of attempted murder and two of robbery.

Officers were given an extra 36 hours to quiz the suspects after an 11-year-old boy was discovered in a ravine in New Edlington with head injuries, while a nine-year-old boy was found injured in the Brick Ponds area on Saturday.

The older boy was described as being seriously injured and was airlifted to Sheffield Children's Hospital, while the nine-year-old – said to be the boy's nephew – was found wandering around Auburn Road dripping in blood.

Doncaster Council confirmed the two arrested boys were in foster care.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown said it was "clearly a shocking incident". Mr Brown added he would be "following the case very closely".

A Downing Street spokesman said that Prime Minister Gordon Brown had cautioned against drawing any wider conclusions about the state of society.

"In his view, the overwhelming majority are well-behaved and have good upbringings, and therefore he would be cautious about reaching any general conclusion about what is a disturbing but singular event," the spokesman added.
