King In Court Over Alleged attack

Middlesbrough striker Marlon King has appeared in court today accused of attacking a woman in a London nightclub. The 28-year-old allegedly sexually assaulted and punched the 20-year-old in Revue Bar in Brewer Street, on 7 December last year. The footballer, from Hertfordshire, was charged with sexual assault by touching and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He was granted bail until 14 May when he will appear at Southwark Crown Court.

Man Shot In Paisley

A 36-year-old man has been left seriously injured after he was shot on his doorstep in the Gallowhill area of Paisley. Police said a lone gunman approached the man while he was letting his dog out at his home in Brewster Avenue at about 12.10am. Detectives said they were treating the incident as attempted murder. The suspect who was wearing a dark coloured "hoodie" made off, on foot, in an unknown direction. The injured man was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley where staff described his condition as "serious but stable".

Men Arrested After Supertram Crash

Two men are being questioned by police after a 34-year-old man was injured when he was hit by a supertram in Sheffield. The man was taken to Northern General Hospital to have treatment to his head, chest, lungs and ankle. The incident occurred on Tuesday night, on Middlewood Road at the junction of Taplin Road.

Lovell Appointed To £150m Syniad Development Framework

Lovell has been chosen by the Syniad Consortium to work on its £150 million development framework in Wales. Syniad - which comprises Wales & West Housing Association, Linc-Cymru Housing Association and the Pennaf Housing Group - is set to embark on a major programme to build new affordable, energy-efficient housing across North, South and Mid Wales. The framework will operate across 16 local authority areas in Wales to deliver new homes and provide construction skills training and job opportunities. The new housing will include super-green homes which meet Level 4 - exceeding the Welsh Assembly Government's minimum standards - of the Code for Sustainable Homes, the system for assessing the environmental performance and energy efficiency of new housing.

New Director Of Communications Appointed At Defra

Andrew Whyte, currently Executive Director Advocacy and Communications at Arts Council England, is joining the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) as the Director of Communications in June. During his career in campaigning and communication roles, Andrew has worked across a range of sectors including the UK voluntary sector, public sector and in industry. Following positions at the British Youth Council and at children's charity Barnardo's, Andrew joined Rupert Murdoch's News International in 1991 and two years later became Deputy Director of Corporate Affairs. In 1996 he left to join Shell International as an external affairs adviser. Andrew then went on to work for the BBC, as the Head of Public Relations in May 1998 and the Head of Corporate and Public Relations in August 2000, a post he held until leaving the corporation in September 2005 to join the Arts Council England.

Dedicated ITV News Channel axed
ITV has announced that following a "strategic review" it is to invest £2 million in its news programming but the axe has fallen on its 24-hour rolling ITV News Channel. The company said that the decision came after a review of the network’s news services as part of an evaluation of the future requirements for ITV news up to 2010 and beyond.

Director And Deputy Director Of News At BBC 'Step Aside'
Both the BBC director and deputy director of news have been asked to "step aside" pending the outcome of an internal review into the handling of the Jimmy Savile claims. The move follows a report into a separate Newsnight broadcast on abuse claims, which said the BBC must resolve a "lack of clarity" in the chain of command.

Sky News Cameraman Killed In Egypt
A Sky news cameraman has been shot and killed while covering the ongoing violence in Cairo, Egypt. The broadcaster confirmed the death of 61-year-old Mick Deane on Wednesday. Mr Dean had worked for Sky for 15 years. In a statement, Head of Sky News, John Ryley, paid tribute to an "experienced journalist" and a "much-loved colleague".
