Service In Memory Of Helicopter Victims Held
A memorial service for the 16 men who died in the recent North Sea helicopter crash disaster is being held today. Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Prince Charles will be among about 1,000 people, including many relatives, at the Kirk of St Nicholas in Aberdeen.
Teen Dies In Quarry Accident
A teenager has died after falling off a cliff at a quarry. West Midlands Ambulance Service said the 18-year-old was found at the bottom of the cliff in water at Boon's Quarry near Nuneaton, Warwickshire and he was declared dead at the scene. Two boys who had been trying to help the teenager were treated for hypothermia after being in the water. A third boy was treated for shock following Tuesday evening's events. Fire Kills One In Caravan
A woman has died following a fire which broke out at static caravan in a Nottingham suburb. The emergency services were called to the fire at Trentside, Beeston Rylands, at about 3.30am. A police spokesman said the female occupant had been overcome by fumes when officers arrived and died later.
Cardiff Hospital Plan Approved
£30m of Welsh Assembly Government funding has been earmarked for the redevelopment of a Cardiff hospital, Health Minister Edwina Hart has said. Subject to planning approval, work on the Cardiff Royal Infirmary (CRI) will begin in the next few months and is expected to take three to four years.
Fire Hits Scottish Hearth
Fire officers from three crews spent 14 hours tackling a heath fire at Dunnet Head, the most northerly point on mainland Britain yesterday. The Highlands and Islands Fire and Rescue Service said the alarm was raised at 5.30am and the fire was not under control until 7.30pm. Firefighters from John O'Groats, Thurso and Lybster dealt with the blaze.

Heroic Tyne Firemen Honoured
Two Tyne and Wear firefighters are to be recognised for their bravery at a special ceremony today. Andrew Nelson and Allan Richardson will be presented with the Chief Fire Officer's Commendations for brave and meritorious conduct after saving a man's life. The men took part in a dramatic rescue in the early hours of 4 February.

Firefighters launch four-day strike
More than 1,000 firefighters across Merseyside have begun a four-day strike in protest over planned job cuts. Another four-day stoppage is scheduled to begin two hours after the first one ends.

Suspicious Glasgow Car Fires
Detectives in Glasgow's East End are investigating a spate of vehicle fire attacks in the city yesterday. Shortly after 3.30am police were called to a report of a vehicle fire in Ashvale Crescent, Glasgow. Upon arrival police were advised by Strathclyde Fire Service that four vehicles had been damaged by fire.
