Mother Arrested Over Girl's Death

The mother of a four-year-old, who was found dead in a house on Merseyside, has been arrested on suspicion of her murder.

The child was discovered by a family member at the property on Oakdale Avenue, Wallasey in the early hours of Wednesday.

Forensic scientists were today at the scene collection evidence, and an examination is to be carried out later to confirm the cause of death.

A telephone box, around half a mile from the murder scene has been linked to the investigation.

The box, at the junction of Brentwood Street and Poulton Road, was searched by detectives earlier today.

A Merseyside Police statement, released earlier today, read: "The investigation is in its early stages and crime scene investigators are at the address. House-to-house inquiries are also taking place."
