Police Officer Held Over Crash Investigation
A police officer has been arrested over the murder of a woman who died in a car crash in the Greater Manchester area.
The 26-year-old man was detained following the crash in Bolton, in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Police were called to Tottington Road, Harwood, at 2.25am by paramedics who had been alerted after a silver BMW left the road.
The 31-year-old driver – a serving officer with Greater Manchester Police – was driving the car.
According to police, they are investigating the possibility the victim – who worked in Rochdale – was attacked before the incident.
"The woman was a serving GMP officer who worked in the Rochdale area," a Greater Manchester Police (GMP) spokesman said.
"An investigation has been launched to establish how the victim sustained her injuries and the possibility she was attacked before the road traffic collision," he added.
"A 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody for questioning."
The spokesman also said the officers were not on duty at the time.
