Man Dies In Fire
A man has died after a blaze in a block of flats in a Lancashire town. Three firefighting crews tackled the blaze, which started in a kitchen in the premises in Market Street, Shawforth at 11.30pm on Monday. A 33-year-old suffered serious injuries in the fire and died in hospital a few hours later. A fire spokesman said the batteries had been removed from two smoke alarms, meaning there was no "early warning". He added: "We believe the fire started in the kitchen and it was probably cooking related. "Due to the fire alarms not working there was no early warning system which could have saved the victim." There were no other injuries in the fire.
