Newsagent Dies After Luton Stabbing

A shopkeeper has died after being stabbed during a robbery in his shop.

A man in his 30s has been arrested after the owner of Moon's Newsagents in Park Street, Luton, was attacked this morning.

Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire serious crime officers were called to the scene at 6.30 on Sunday morning.

The shopkeeper died after the stabbing. The attack is being treated as murder, Det Ch Insp Jon Humphries said.

"We believe it was a robbery that resulted in the shopkeeper being stabbed," he said.

"Anyone who was in or around Manor Road, Park Street or Bailey Street around 6.00am this morning and saw anything unusual or suspicious which could be related to this incident should contact police."

A post mortem examination is due to be carried out later, the spokesman added.

Meanwhile, in a separate attack, a teenager is in a critical condition in hospital in Nottingham, following a stabbing.

The 18-year-old was attacked in Teviot Road, in the Bestwood area, at around 2.30am on Saturday.

He was taken to the Queen's Medical Centre, Nottinghamshire Police said.

Staff Member At Mental Health Unit Killed In Stabbing
A man in his 60s has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a staff member at a mental health hospital died in a stabbing. The female victim, who has not yet been named, is understood to have been attacked at the inpatient unit of Wotton Lawn Hospital. According to reports the staff member was attacked at about 07:30 on Wednesday morning.

Man Faces Sentencing Of Stabbing Ex-Wife 30 Times
A man who stabbed his ex-wife 20 times is to face sentencing on Friday after being convicted of her murder at the Old Bailey. Nathaniel Brown, 27, of no fixed address, was found guilty of killing mother-of-two Zandra Maxwell-Nelson. The court heard that police were called at about 6.10pm on April 20 to reports of a woman stabbed in Durban Road.

Asylum Seeker Jailed Over PC's Murder
An asylum seeker convicted of stabbing a policeman to death has been jailed for life. Nigerian Ikechukwu Tennyson Obih, 29, stabbed Bedfordshire policeman Jon Henry twice in the chest in Luton on June 11, 2007 as he tried to arrest him. He was told he must serve at least 25 years.
