Police Dogs Die In Hot Parked Car
Two police dogs have been found dead in a hot vehicle parked outside the headquarters of Nottinghamshire Police.
An Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) investigation has been launched after an RSPCA officer found the two German Shepherd dogs dead at the Sherwood Lodge headquarters on Tuesday.
The incident was voluntarily referred to the IPCC.
Nottinghamshire's Assistant Chief Constable, Peter Davies, said: "This is a tragic incident and we value the important work our police dogs carry out on a daily basis.
"That is why we swiftly reported this incident to the RSPCA and we will be working with them very closely."
In a statement issued by Nottinghamshire Police, they said the welfare of all animals owned by them was "of paramount importance and we endeavour to take every measure possible to ensure their well-being and safety".
Police said no one has been suspended over the incident.
It is believed the dogs' handler was not on duty at the time and had called in to the headquarters, leaving the dogs in the parked car.
