Delegation visits Newry to see how town copes with the euro

SDLP Assembly Member for Newry and Armagh, John Fee has welcomed numerous distinguished guests to the town to see at first hand how Newry is coping with the arrival of the euro.

The Mayor of Holyhead from Wales, the Mayor of Dun Laoghaire from the Republic of Ireland and a number of councillors from both towns arrived in Newry on Wednesday March 6 to see how the border town is dealing with the euro's arrival in Northern Ireland.

The visitors also plan to attend the launch of the Newry and Mourne Euro Committee at 8pm in the evening. The Committee will be jointly launched by SDLP Minister Dr Sean Farren and the Mayor of Holyhead and will also be joined by SDLP MP Sean Farren and business leaders from the town.

Dr Farren recently said that the successful introduction of the euro in the Republic of Ireland "was an object lesson from which the British government had much to learn for the day when it too decided to enter the Eurozone".
