SDLP councillor targeted in pipe bomb attack
The RUC say an SDLP councillor and his family were lucky to have escape injury in a pipe bomb attack on their home in Londonderry.
Gerard Diver, his wife and four children were in their home at Sutton Gardens in the Waterside area when the device exploded shortly before midnight on Thursday October 25.
The front door was blown in, shrapnel damaged the ceiling and walls of the hallway of the house, and a number of four-inch nails were recovered from the scene.
SDLP Chair of the Assembly group Alban Maginness has condemned the attack on his fellow councillor. Reacting to the news he said: “SDLP representatives have come under attack on many occasions. Such attacks will in no way deter us from carrying out our work and representing those in the community. I pay tribute to Gerard Diver and his family and offer my support at this time.”
Irish Minister for Foreign Affairs Brian Cowen has also condemned the pipe bomb attack. Speaking on Friday he said: "All violent acts are to be deplored but an attack on an elected representative is particularly sinister. In a week when we can at last look forward again to the new beginning promised by the Good Friday Agreement, those who carried out this attack and their like want to drag Northern Ireland back to the past. They will not be allowed to succeed." (AMcE)

Viable Pipe Bomb Found In North Belfast
A viable pipe bomb has been found in north Belfast, police have confirmed. Police and army bomb experts discovered the device in the garden of a house in Shore Crescent on Monday. The pipe bomb has been removed for further examination. Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

Home targeted in Antrim pipe bomb attack
Police are appealing for information following a pipe bomb attack at a house in Antrim early this morning. The incident, which occurred at around 4am at the house in Norfolk Street, left a letterbox damaged, however the three occupants of the house, which included a 16-year-old boy, escaped injury in the attack.

Politicians have united to condemn a pipe bomb attack at the house of a DUP candidate in Antrim. The DUP Leader and Stormont First Minister, Peter Robinson also condemned those responsible for the pipe bomb attack on the home of one of his party's council candidates, John Smyth Jnr, whose father, also named John, is a DUP councilor.

House Damaged In Petrol Bomb attack
A house in Larne has been damaged in a petrol bomb attack, according to police. It happened on Church Way at around 10.30pm on Wednesday. A man was in the house at the time but was unhurt. Minor damage was caused to the property and a window was smashed. Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.
