COUNTY ANTRIM MOTHER REUNITED WITH ABANDONED BABY
AN ABANDONED BABY found near a Gaelic Athletic Association football pitch in Ballymena has been reunited with her mother.
The newborn baby was discovered outside All Saints GAC on the Woodside Road at around 11.30pm on Saturday night. A local taxi firm had received a telephone call from a highly-distressed woman who claimed that the baby had been left at the club gates.
Police were alerted, and later found the infant at the scene, in good health and wrapped in a white blanket. She was then brought to Antrim Area Hospital, where she was described as doing well.
Police appealed for the mother to get in touch with them, stressing that she could require emergency medical treatment, while officers also urged anyone who may have assisted with the birth to come forward to help with the case.
However, on Sunday 15 July, the appeal was called off as the RUC confirmed that a woman had come forward as the mother of the abandoned child.
Both mother and child are now being looked after in Antrim Area Hospital. (CL)
