FAMILY OF TRAGIC TODDLER RETURN HOME FROM SPAIN

THE family of a three-year-old girl who drowned in a swimming pool accident in Spain have returned to their home in Country Down.

The tragic incident happened on Tuesday 10 July, while the toddler, Peggy Flynn, was playing with her brothers beside the pool. It is thought a gust of wind blew the girl into the water, where she subsequently drowned. The child’s parents and five brothers and sisters are now being comforted. Strangford MLA Kieran McCarthy has said that the village of Kircubbin was devastated at the news of the tragedy.

The family have made arrangements for her body to be flown home from Spain.

This is the latest in a series of deaths involving children drowning whilst on holiday in Europe. The mother of drowned English schoolgirl Bunmi Shagaya has issued a heartfelt appeal for witnesses of her daughter’s death. The 11-year-old drowned in a lake while on a trip to Cany-Barville, near Dieppe, France. (CL)
