Woman Stabbed In Head After Asking Stranger To Leave Her Housewarming Party
A man who stabbed a young woman in the head in Omagh when she asked him to leave her party has been sentenced to four and a half years in prison.
Stephen McCrea, 32, of Riverview Park in the town admitted maliciously wounding nurse Tracy Monteith on August 8, 2010.
He was originally charged with attempting to murder her but the charge was dropped when he admitted the malicious wounding.
Ms Monteith was found on her own doorstep with a kitchen knife sticking out of her head after McCrea gate-crashed her house-warming party.
She and her partner had just moved into their Omagh home.
Judge David MacFarland said that McCrea's "actions on this day indicate a man who was unable to cope with the most reasonable request to leave the party as a stranger and uninvited guest".
He said McCrea responded to requests to leave by "arming himself with a knife either to undertake a revenge attack or to us it to force entry, and then returning to inflict a savage blow to a defenceless lady posing no risk to him".
When McCrea finishes his sentence, Parole Commissioners will decide on safety grounds when to release him.
Ms Monteith was present at the hearin in Belfast's Laganside court, but was too upset to comment.

Gay Marriage Defeated
A proposal to introduce same-sex marriage in Northern Ireland has been rejected by MLAs at Stormont. The Sinn Féin motion to introduce gay marriage in Northern Ireland, while also allowing religious institutions the freedom to opt out of same-sex marriage ceremonies, was defeated with 51 voting 'yes' and 40 voting against.

UUP Councillors Criticise McCrea Flag Remark
The three Ulster Unionist Party councillors have demanded Basil McCrea be disciplined over his remarks that the Alliance Party was right to suggest the union flag only be flown on designated days over City Hall. Mr McCrea made the comments, saying he agreed with the decision, on BBC Radio Ulster’s Nolan Show.
