NI Prepares For Gale Force Winds
Gale force winds are expected to hit Northern Ireland early tomorrow evening, according to the Met Office.
Northern Ireland's forecast has been upgraded to 'yellow' for tomorrow and Thursday, due to strong winds along the east and north coasts.
"Severe gale force winds will affect parts of Northern Ireland, western, central and northern Scotland from late Wednesday afternoon into early Thursday," the Met Office said.
"Gusts of 60 to 70 mph are expected in exposed areas, especially around coasts. Gusts in excess of 80 mph are also possible in places, most likely in the far north west of Scotland. The wind will lead to large waves with some coastal over-topping possible. Some heavy rain is also expected. The rain and the strongest winds will clear on Thursday morning, giving way to blustery and wintry showers.
"The public should be aware of the potential for disruption, particularly to transport."
The winds are predicted to die down by the end of the week, with no weather warning currently in place for Friday.
Met Éireann said Wednesday would begin with "bright spells", but would later be "very wet and windy...with strong to gale force southerly winds which will veer westerly later. There will be some severe gusts along the coast with highs of 9 or 10 degrees."
