Belfast Council Engages With 'New' Residents
Belfast City Council has begun contacting residents who will be living within the new city boundary from next year.
A special edition of the Council's 'City Matters' magazine is being distributed next week to 23,000 households in the current Castlereagh, Lisburn and North Down areas. These will be amalgamated into the expanded Belfast City Council area from 1 April 2015.
"Around 21% of Lisburn's population and 38% of Castlereagh's population, along with just over 160 households from North Down, will be transferring to Belfast next April," explained Councillor Deidre Hargey, Presiding Councillor of the new Belfast Council.
"It is important that we communicate with these new residents who we will be welcoming to our expanded council area, and give them the information they need on issues such as waste management, recycling arrangements and other services, as well as all the preparations we are making for the implementation of the reform," added Councillor Hargey.
