Loyalists thought to be behind pipe bomb attacks
Loyalist paramilitaries are thought to have been behind two separate, but connected, pipe bomb attacks in Londonderry early this morning.
In the first attack five people, all Protestants, escaped injury after a pipe bomb was thrown at a house in Bond's Place in the Waterside area of the city at about 2am.
Surrounding homes had to be evacuated following the incident as army bomb experts searched the area.
During the second incident a short time later a woman picked up a pipe bomb outside her house in the Church Meadows area of the Waterside not knowing what it was.
Luckily for the woman it failed to go off.
It is believed the residents of both homes are related.

'Viable Pipe Bomb Type Device' In L'Derry Security Alert
Police have declared a security alert in Londonderry was the result of a "viable pipe bomb type device". The alert began with reports of a "loud bang" outside a house in Bann Drive at about 11.15pm on Tuesday, 17 July. It is understood that a man and woman were in the house at the time of the incident but escaped uninjured.

Viable Pipe Bomb Found In North Belfast
A viable pipe bomb has been found in north Belfast, police have confirmed. Police and army bomb experts discovered the device in the garden of a house in Shore Crescent on Monday. The pipe bomb has been removed for further examination. Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

Flats damaged in overnight pipe bomb attacks
A number of flats have been damaged in overnight pipe bomb attacks in Co Antrim. In the first incident devices were thrown at the front doors of two flats in Rathcoole Drive, Newtownabbey just after 10pm. A short time later another device exploded at a ground floor flat in Carnbrook Drive, Antrim, causing damage to a bedroom.
