Funeral Of Murdered Prison Officer Takes Place In North Belfast

Hundreds of mourners gathered to attend the funeral of murdered prison officer Adrian Ismay.

Mr Ismay, 52, died after being injured by a bomb which went off under the van he was driving on Hillsborough Drive on 04 March.

He died as a direct result of the injuries he sustained during the explosion.

The funeral took place at Woodvale Methodist Church in north Belfast.

A public vigil was also held outside City Hall.

A dissident republican group calling itself the New IRA has claimed responsibility for the attack.

A man has been remanded in custody charged with the murder.

All visits to Maghaberry and Hydebank Wood have were cancelled today, 22 March, to allow staff to attend the funeral.
