Two men appear in court over fireman death
Two men have appeared in court charged with the manslaughter of firefighter Joe McCloskey who died in a hotel fire 10 days ago.
Aiden Higgins, 32, from Belraugh Road and Nigel Robert Higgins, 39, from Fort Road, both in Garvagh, appeared before Magherafelt Magistrates Court today in connection with the fire at the Gorteen House Hotel in Limavady which resulted in the death of Mr McCloskey.
Aiden Higgins denied the charge when read to him while Nigel Higgins made no reply.
Both men were remanded in custody and are to appear in court via video link on 20 November.
Mr McCloskey died after suffering horrendous burns to his body after falling through a storeroom roof of the hotel as he and his colleagues dealt with a fire.
The 50-year-old was rushed to Altnagelvin Hospital but died a short time later.
The Dungiven father of five was buried at St Patrick's Church in the town following a short service last week.

Detectives in Belfast are investigating a suspected arson attack on a 5G mast in the Andersonstown Road area. The incident occurred around 9.55pm on Wednesday, November 13th. Detective Sergeant Faulkner confirmed that officers attended the scene alongside the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service, who successfully extinguished the blaze.

Over 1,200 attacks on NI fire crews, FBU reveal
Official figures have revealed that there have been 1,200 attacks on fire crews in Northern Ireland over the last three years, with serious concerns that the problem is being underplayed. New UK wide research carried out for the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) and released on Monday showed that there are 40 attacks on UK fire crews every week.

McAreavey Murder Accused In Court
Two men accused of the murder of Michaela McAreavey, 27, are expected to appear in court in Mauritius later today. Mrs McAreavey, the daughter of Tyrone Gaelic Football Manager Mickey Harte, was found strangled in her hotel room while on her honeymoon in Mauritius in January.
