Fire At Building In Belfast Being Treated As Deliberate

Police have launched an investigation following a fire at vacant premises in Belfast.

The blaze, which is being treated as deliberate, happened at a building in the Holywood Road area at around 8.55pm on Tuesday, 09 May.

The building has been completely destroyed.

Emergency services attended the scene to put out the blaze.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 1383 09/05/17.

Police believe that a fire at a block of flats in east Belfast in the early hours of this morning may have been started deliberately. The Fire and Rescue Service was called to the scene of the blaze at the building in the Grace Avenue area, close to Bloomfield Avenue at about 2.45am after receiving reports of residents being trapped by the flames.

The new Lord Mayor of Belfast has told of how the police warned him that loyalists were planning to attack him at his home. Sinn Fein's John Finucane was elected Mayor on Tuesday evening, 21 May, and has revealed that the police came to his house and informed him of the threat later on that night.

A fire at a derelict house in County Antrim this morning, Tuesday 02 July, has been ruled deliberate. Local residents were advised to close their windows and avoid the building on Steeple Road as the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service tackled the blaze.

After tackling a major fire in Co Antrim - caused accidentally yesterday - firefighters were last night also tasked to another blaze, this time in Co Down, which turned out to be deliberate - and continued to cause traffic conjestion this morning.
