Region-Wide Disruption Following Snow Fall
There is widespread disruption across Northern Ireland this morning, 08 December, following snow fall in many parts of the region overnight.
The Met Office has issued yellow "be aware" warnings for snow and ice until 6pm on Saturday, 9 December, with predictions that 10 – 20cm of snow could fall in NI.
Today will see a top temperature of 2ºC or 3ºC. However, the wind chill will make it feel as if it is sub-zero.
There is currently disruption to Northern Ireland's roads, while rail, air and train travel may also be disrupted.
Police have warned motorists to leave extra time for their journeys on Friday morning.
SDLP Infrastructure Spokesperson Sinead Bradley MLA said: "Snow is continuing to fall heavily in areas across the North. Driving, and even walking, conditions in many areas are extremely treacherous. It’s important that everyone making journeys today exercises extra caution.
"I will be liaising with statutory agencies throughout today to ensure everything is being done to improve safety and minimise disruption.
"This is a time for neighbours and communities to pull together. Please check in on elderly or vulnerable people on your street and in your area who may need extra assistance."

Man Charged After Glenarm Shooting

A PSNI spokesperson said: "We don't need much snow and ice for our wee country to grind to a halt! "Leave extra time for your journey.

Road users are advised to plan for potential traffic delays in the south Belfast area on Friday, 15th November due to the UEFA Nations League football match between Northern Ireland and Belarus. The match will take place at Windsor Park, kicking off at 7.45pm, and it is expected that around 18,000 supporters will attend.

Heavy snow showers affect whole of NI
Heavy snow showers have affected many parts of Northern Ireland overnight and there is a Met Office severe weather warning in force. Snow depths ranged from one inch to six inches with many schools closing for the day because of the dangerous conditions.
