Investigation Launched Into Death Of Prisoner
A 33-year-old prisoner in Maghaberry has died, according to the Northern Ireland Prison Service (NIPS).
The man passed away in hospital on Monday, 09 July.
The PSNI, Coroner and the NIPS have launched investigations into the death.
Mr Ronnie Armour, Head of the NIPS, said: "I would like to extend my sympathy and that of the Northern Ireland Prison Service to the family of the prisoner. My thoughts are with them at this difficult time."

Maghaberry Inmate Dies In Custody
A prisoner in Maghaberry has died in custody, the Northern Ireland Prison Service (NIPS) has confirmed. The 28-year-old man died in hospital on Tuesday, 11 December. His next of kin have been informed. Investigations into the death have been launched by the PSNI, Coroner and the Prisoner Ombudsman.

NIPS Issues Apology After 'Dangerous' Prisoner Mistakenly Released
The Head of the Northern Ireland Prison Service (NIPS) has apologised after a "dangerous" inmate was mistakenly released from Maghaberry Prison. Michael Lawrence Smith, who has been charged with murder, was released in error on Tuesday, 07 March, and has failed to return to prison. Mr Ronnie Armour said what happened was a "very serious mistake".

53-Year-Old Dies In Custody At Maghaberry Prison
A 53-year-old has reportedly died in custody at Maghaberry Prison, the Northern Ireland Prison Service has announced. The Department of Justice has reported that the prisoner died on Saturday 28 August, that his next of kin have been informed and that the death was not covid related.
