PSNI Stunned As Lorry Driver Caught Three Times Over Legal Driving Limit

Police have said they were "lost for words" after a suspected drunk truck driver was found three times over the legal driving limit.

Officers responded to a report of a man "staggering" about at a local service station in Antrim on the evening of Monday 07 January.

A spokesperson said: "Officers made their way out to the service station where the male was located. He was the driver of an Artic lorry. To put that into perspective, it could be weighing up to 44 tonnes!

"The male failed a breath test and was arrested. He was brought to custody where he provided a sample of breath.

"His reading was 130. The legal limit is 35!"

The man spent the night in custody due to being "too drunk to be dealt with" at the time.

The officer thanked the "very alert" member of the public who got in touch, for potentially saving many lives by reporting the suspected drunk.

"It's very rare as Police officers that we hear something that leaves us lost for words. "Generally we think we've seen and heard it all before. This is one of those rare occasions.

"If you suspect anyone of drink driving please contact us immediately on 999 and give us a chance to do something about it."
