Boy Injured At Birth Set For £5m Payout
A six-year-old boy from County L'Derry who sustained life-changing injuries during birth is to be awarded almost £5 million in damages.
The child was starved of oxygen to the brain during his delivery at Altnagelvin Hospital in 2012, and developed cerebral palsy as a result.
Lawyers representing his family later sued the Western health and Social Care Trust, who accepted liability, for alleged medical negligence.
Negotiations then centred on the level of damages that would be awarded to cover the care and specialist therapies he will require for the rest of his life.
The settlement, approved today by Mr Justice Maguire, is expected to reach £4.9m.
Tyrone War Memorial Damaged By Vandals
Concrete slabs that form part of a war memorial in County Tyrone have been damaged in an attack condemned by Sinn Fein.
The monument on Main Street, Coagh, was damaged between Tuesday night, 15 January, and the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Sinn Fein MLA Linda Dillon said the incident was "wrong" and is strongly condemned by her party.
"There is no place for attacks like this in our society," the mid Ulster MLA said.
"Monuments and memorials are important places in communities and should be respected.
"I would encourage anyone with information on this incident to contact the PSNI."
Emergency Services Respond To Incident At Craigavon Hospital
Emergency service professionals have responded to an incident at a Northern Ireland hospital this morning, Wednesday 16 January.
It is unclear as yet why crews were called to Craigavon Area Hospital.
At the time, the Southern Health and Social Care Trust said: "There is currently an incident ongoing on Craigavon Area Hospital site. Traffic restrictions are in place. Emergency services are at the scene. We will keep you updated."
Crews were stood down at around 11am, but the Trust has not released any further details.
A spokeswoman for the fire service said: "Fire Crews were called to an incident at Craigavon Area Hospital. No action was required by firefighters."

Police have launched an investigation following the sudden death of a woman at Craigavon Area Hospital on Wednesday, 18 May. It is believed the 50-year-old died following a fall. The Southern Health and Social Care described it as a "tragic accident".

New cancer building opens at Craigavon Area Hospital
The first purpose built cancer unit in Northern Ireland opened on November 27 at Craigavon Area Hospital. The ‘Macmillan Building’ is the flagship of the partnership between Macmillan Cancer Relief, Craigavon area Hospital and the Southern Health and Social Services Board to develop cancer services in the Southern Area.

Hygiene Testing Failed For Five NI Hospitals
Eleven wards in total in five hospitals have required a further inspection into Hygiene and infection by the Regulation and Quality improvement Authority. The five hospitals involved were The Royal Victoria and City Hospital which are both located in Belfast. The Ulster in Dundonald, The Altnagelvin in Derry and the Craigavon Area Hospital.

Woman plucked from sea off County Down coast
A woman was rescued from the Irish Sea off the County Down coast by the Newcastle lifeboat on Thursday evening. It is understood that the woman, who was treated in the Downe Hospital following her rescue, had fallen into the sea from the promenade in Newcastle.

Maternity Plans Conceived
Key proposals for an expansion of maternity services at Craigavon Area Hospital have been announced. NI Health Minister Michael McGimpsey revealed his plans to develop maternity services in the Southern Trust area overall, which will allow for hundreds of additional births every year at Craigavon.
